The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali: 2.14: “If you have done something meritous, you experience pleasure and happiness; if wrong things, suffering. A happy or unhappy life is your own creation. Nobody else is responsible. If you remember this, you won’t find fault with anybody. You are your own best friend as well as your worst enemy.”

I love reminding myself of this as I flow through the ups and downs. This sutra reveals the amount of responsibility each of us has over our own lives. As I observe happiness and excitement towards life at the moment, this sutra brings me into a state of gratitude towards myself. The same goes with more negative experiences. If I am discontent, I need to consider what I can do to improve my experience, whether it start with an attitude adjustment, or actually changing my approach to a situation.

Ana Forrest introduced the idea of beauty reports to me in her recent series of workshops held in Chicago, IL. A beauty report is a sharing of something you found beauty in with someone else. Beauty reports are a celebration of and expression of gratitude towards that which awoken in you an appreciation towards life.
